WILDLIFERS! STUDENT NATURE DOCOs

STEM project-based learning inspired by a new children's television show.

Partnering with Wildbear Entertainment, the ABC and schools across Australia we designed and implemented a program for students to learn to create their own nature documentaries based on the children's TV show Wildlifers! We brought together assets from Wildbear Entertainment and ran a series of sessions for teachers to support them to undestand the resource and develop ways to support students to create nature documentaries based on their class’ context and interests. We used co-creation techniques that allowed students to write and edit their own mini-documentaries.

In the ongoing evolution of our practice, we then were able to capture the experience and work of teachers and students to develop a resource that is available on ABC Education for any teacher to download and use. It outlines many and various ways different teachers went about using the assets and idea to support their students to develop STEM knowledge and skills across zoology, biology, media creation and media literacy skills.

We worked with Wildbear Entertainment, ABC and Zoos Victoria to deliver this terrific resource.
